Spring Scream

April 6-8 was maybe the best weekend of my life in Taiwan! I had a blast. Spring Scream is a yearly event in Taiwan that is always held in Kenting. It's a weekend similar to Lollapalooza..or Woodstock even..except substitute all of the Caucasian hippies for Taiwanese hippies and a handful of foreigners. I've been to Kenting before back in November for the government sponsored trip, so now we could actually enjoy our trip down there. Kenting normally has hot sunny weather and nice beaches, but this particular weekend was super cold/windy/rainy..go figure! (and we only packed summer time clothing and were freezing the whole time..) Nothin a few beers can't cure, right? Shija and I got our Fridays off so we could trek out there at a decent time. I took a cab to the HSR and the HSR to Kaohsiung and then a bus to Kenting and then a shuttle bus to our hotel . God I love traveling..after we got settled into our hotel room which was cozy, we decided to set out to find some food. We ended up taking a cab to the main strip which the night market/street of bars. We ate at this restaurant (that we unknowingly would be eating at 2 more times that weekend) Smokey Joes. It had every type of cuisine and ridiculous decorations of Native Americans crossed with Mexican themed.. I got quesadillas and they were really good.

The bands were mainly Taiwanese rock bands but there were a few foreigner groups that performed as well.Shija and me met a group of guys that we ended up hanging out with for the weekend. They were really fun and from all over the world which was cool. One from England, Canada, America, Australia, and Holland. They all play soccer in Taichung and told me I should come out on Wednesday nights so I might start doing that. The one guy from Canada, Robert, was crazy! Funniest person I've met in a while. The guy from Australia was into Shija, he was cute. The guy from Holland, Gerwin, talked like Arnold Schwarzenegger so I kept trying to make him say lines from Kindergarten cop. I kept trying to get him  to say, "Who is your daddy and what does he do.." and Gerwin kept saying, "Who is your father mon? And what does he do mon?" and we were like, He's not Jamaican, Gerwin!! It was hilarious. The morning we were leaving, the weather of course cleared up and was sunny and perfect out. We had brunch with the guys we met and we all decided that we need to hangout when we get back into Taichung.
